Since it has started being warmer we have enjoyed seeing more wildlife, so I’m starting this post to show you all a few of the animals we have managed to snap photos of:
A super fat toad we came across before the rain.
A group of wild ponies at the Grayson Highlands
A wild pony enjoying its lunch
Ponies at the Grayson Highlands were very obliging about photography
Longhorns, these guys were intimidating
This box turtle sat still very nicely to let us take his close up!
This guy looked like a rattler to me, but darker. He didn’t rattle at us, just tasted the air while I got away as fast as possible
Turkey Vultures at Tinker Cliffs
These Efts are everywhere and super adorable. Watching one walk had me giggling!
The large millipedes are about 3 inches long, and are seen on the trail pretty much every day. We have been regularly fascinated by their activities.
Canadian Geese and Goslings outside of Harpers Ferry
Mama Duck and Ducklings. These guys were very speedy!
I would have thought this lizard was fake if I hadn’t seen it moving
Big ole toad
Copperhead snake at Annapolis Rocks in Maryland. Really glad someone was already looking at this by the time we walked up. Wouldn’t want to step on him.
Lizard playing dead
Duckling near Boiling Springs, PA
Doe at a state park in New York
Bears at the Bear Mountain Zoo the trail goes straight through
We watched this guy catch a fish in water I was pretty sure no fish could live in
Cool Frog that posed nicely on the boardwalk
The best picture we could get of a bear in the wild
This guy was scary, rabid we think
This puppy was hiking the trail with her owners. Don’t worry they were taking it easy and carrying her through the toughest parts. We met them headed south in NH
